Packaged and processed foods are not going away, and they will remain a large part of a typical person’s daily diet. It is nearly unavoidable. But many foods are not packaged and do not have the Nutrition Facts Table.
“You are as likely to find a Nutrition Facts Table stuck to fresh fruits and vegetables as you would find a leprechaun in a bunch of grapes.”
You undoubtedly will (and should) eat many such foods, such as fresh broccoli, grapes, and parsley. Hundreds of other vegetables, fruits, and meats do not have the nutrition components listed on them. These are often very healthy and a crucial part of a balanced diet. But, you may want to know the smile system rating for such foods.
The information here, in the chart below, provides the fiber-sugar-protein values for a typical serving size of many common unlabeled food items consumed in a regular and healthy diet. For convenience, the nutrition fact values (in grams) have been plotted on a graph, as we do for labeled foods, so you can SEE if the food item is good for you to eat. Is it a smile, grin, smile-frown, flat face, or full frown? In most cases, unlabeled foods, such as fresh carrots, ripe avocados, and crisp kale, are smile foods! Poultry, other meats, and dairy products are typically protein-grins. Fruits tend to be frowns, but they are part of a balanced diet as a treat, snack, or supplement to other healthy foods. To be sure about any single food item, check the chart below as often as you would like. And you can regularly check back to see new items, as we are constantly updating it to make it comprehensive.
