Desserts and treats are part of a healthy lifestyle. You should enjoy them in moderation, perhaps one or two such sweet foods daily. If your chosen treat or dessert is depicted by a frown or a smile-frown, that is OK. Go ahead and eat it. But the majority of your daily eating should not be composed of such foods. They are fine in limited quantities. Use good judgment and gravitate toward smile and half-smile foods that complement each other.
If you are eating a fruit, that is an excellent snack and meal supplement. Go ahead! The U.S. government (see the USDA food pyramid) recommends 2 to 4 fruit servings per day. Also, be aware that eating a whole fruit is healthier than eating dried, juiced, or processed fruits. The whole fruit contains water and all of the fruit’s healthy components, including fiber, vitamins, and minerals, so fruits contribute to a balanced diet. Most fruits contain, however, a high level of sugar, so you must balance this with plenty of fiber and protein from other foods.
